Alexandria Borg El Arab Airport

When I heard all flights to Alexandria were to be reallocated to this airport from January 2011 on, I thought I would be a lucky costumer trying out a brand new terminal. Silly me.
It's in the middle of the desert, almost an hour drive from downtown Alexandria. There are only 3 check-in counters and 1 (ground) gate. Airport security is loose by western standards and I was allowed in with a 1,5L bottle of water. No postbox, no restaurant, no toilet paper, no entertainment except for a tv on the boarding room, tunned either on arab news or football. There was a dreary duty free shop and a cafe selling coffee, tea, tasteless box of cookies and chips - that's all food you could get in a radius of 30min-drive from there!
My flight (Air Arabia) was postponed for the next morning due to bad weather and all passengers were simply left on the terminal, babies included. The only relief were the pray carpets, so we could lay down on the floor. Airport staff hardly spoke any English and it was difficult to get updates on the situation. In the morning, after 9h stranded, they provided us with... tea and tasteless cookies!
Airport to be avoided at all costs. And don't even consider sleeping here!
