"I've heard that the old Banjul terminal was very unpleasant. However, the new terminal (in existence for several years now) is quite nice for an airport in a developing country. The airport is clean, there are small cafes/restaurants for purchasing food or drinks. Yes, there are porters who offer to carry your bags for you (legitimate porters can be identified by their brown uniforms and ID tags). The distance is not far to walk, but you need only pay US1 which isn't much and keeps the porters employed. My bags were searched in a cursory fashion on entry to the country and on departure. However, nothing that was any worse than anywhere else one travels these days. The Gambian people are friendly and hospitable. Eager to welcome visitors to their country. I had a great experience there both times I have traveled to this country."

"This airport will have to get a really low rating if i ever had to sleep in it. The main terminal was simply a shack complete with lizards and snakes hiding in the roof space, the baggage reclaim consists of a huge mountain of luggage; The airport officials all had huge guns. However Gambian people are really friendly and honest apart from the little rat who told me he'd swap my Orlando Magic Shirt for a wooden cat, and promptly disappeared with the goods, never to be seen again (I'll get you back one day!). On the up side i heard rumours there is a new terminal being built, which must be an improvement on what i saw, so you never know, though personally i wouldn't bother."
