"Recently returned from the coast of Morocco via Marrakesh. Just missed the last ferry in Tanger and out of dirhams, had to wax creative re. sleeping arrangements. Just inside the port gates on the left is an out-of-service office building with a covered porch. The port carries on throughout the night at a very relaxed pace, but is very non-threatening. My girlfriend and I made ourselves at home using my surfboard bag and a sleeping bag and actually slept rather well until the first ferry at 7 a.m. Early on a fellow in a uniform checked us out, but nothing was said and we weren't roused. On the other hand, initially we opted for the bus station, a short hike outside the port gates. I'm a seasoned traveller and not even afraid, but we were warned against this option by several well-meaning locals. There were indeed some unsavory types about and I would have snoozed with one eye open."

  • Hostels and Budget Accommodation in Morocco - I've booked my own accommodation on this site. If you are too old for hostels and too cheap for hotels, like me, you'll find some good properties. They offer dorms, private rooms, B&Bs, Apartments.
