FLORENCE (Train Station), Italy (Contributed by ?)
"Two of my friends and I stayed in Florenze during the European summer in 99. Because accommodation in Florence is so expensive, we decided to spend our second night in the station. We stayed in the passenger lounge until 1am ( comfortable but the attendant prods you if you noticeably fall asleep). Then we moved into another waiting lounge until a massive cleaning machine (like a huge alien vacuum) came and threatened to sweep us up - then we were forced to the grass outside where Italian police threatened us with batons until we got off the grass. So we moved to the concrete which smelt strongly of urine. In the end we had about one hour sleep on the top of a massive grate which had warm air coming out of it. Disgusting, but not as uncomfortable as It might sound. You just have to avoid the police and homeless, drunk and insane people. "
