SPANISH TRAINS
(Contributed by Kevin)
"Once was taking a long trip from Geneva through to Northern Spain - about
30 hours non-stop. You feel like you have descended into Hell when you have to
step off the beautiful Euro trains at the border to Spain and hop on the old
rickety Spanish beasts. All I wanted to do was stretch out and have a good sleep
(it was late at night) - impossible considering that I was sharing the small
cabin with 4 others. What to do? I moved everyone's luggage out of the way,
spread out my sleeping bag across the wooden rails of the luggage rack above our
seats, and climbed up into 'bed'. The conductor acted as if everything was
normal when I handed my ticket down to him. I think that the most concerned
people on the train were the folks sitting directly beneath my perch in the
luggage rack. I was lucky that the ride was smooth and that there were no sudden
stops. I woke up the next morning refreshed and ready to tackle another
country."
