"A few years ago, after trekking in Nepal, we decided to tour Rajasthan and flew into Varanasi to see the lovely Ganges, thinking this was an international hotel, I didn't change my money to the local Indian currency in Kathmandu... so I arrived with only US. Upon arrival in the "international" airport, which was a 5 x 10 room I was in serious trouble, with no ride into town, and no local currency. To add to the situation, while going though customs, I was detained and it was strongly suggested that I pay Backshish (they gladly accept US dollars and traveller's checks) to get through. Apparently I had too much luggage - all 2 bags. Or, maybe it was the fact that I was the only Westerner in the place? I could elaborate but won't, the main details are here.On the return flight out of there a few days later (I think we headed towards Agra), I tried to contact the manager or someone in charge to complain, but (s)he was out of the office, or, (s)he was on break, or (s)he would be back tomorrow etc...No chance of sleeping in this one, there's no room and it's got alot of armed men with too much time on their hands guarding the place. There's a staff of 2 security/military per square foot."
