Guatemala City Airport

Lasting Impressions....

Memorable comments left by travellers:

"Security was even worse as they confiscating my tweezers, bottled water, pringles container, and incense (I purchased it in Guatemala). I questioned the lady to why she was taking these things and she pretended not to hear me." (Laura)

I was licked upon arrival at this interesting airport. No, I don't know the man that administered the lick and run and was not able to get a good look as he quickly scampered away! This airport is great when you land as the run way is surrounded by airplanes that have been shot down in the past ...bullet holes and all! Do NOT attempt sleeping during the day, the airport is beyond noisy!!! Oh, and the custom agents will allow you to put your things in someone else's bags if they tell you you have too much stuff in your own. I got a hammock home this way!

There is no waiting area available if you have to stay at the airport overnight to wait for a connecting flight. The boarding gates are closed overnight so the only place to stay is at the departures floor next to the main entrance where the security guard is. The guard will ask to see your itinerary before letting you in as the airport is closed at night. The "waiting area" is a corner consisting of 4 plastic chairs and a hard non-carpeted floor. Bring a sleeping bag.
