Traveller Comments....

"There is no airport in Iquitos, only a barn-like structure where you get your luggage. " (Gae Weber)

"It is larger than a barn... come on... " (?)

"I arrived in lima airport for a flight to Miami and found they had graciously sold my ticket. But if I was very good they'd be able to get me on a flight out the next morning (via Iquitos where I had just flown in from). I was at the end of my trip and fairly broke so I decided to stay the day and night in the airport. I tried the seats first which were uncomfortable so I gave up that idea. I eventually found myself upstairs in the restaurant area and lay myself out with a bag as a pillow. It was clean quiet, and no one disturbed me. Access to the airport is restricted and I felt pretty safe. I even got a half decent sleep. Strangely the arrival area has much more comfortable luggage seats and would be ideal to sleep in but you can't. General thumbs up."

"Iquitos airport is no barn, but not great either. The weather here is always hot and humid. Air conditioning is non-existant here. Arrivals and departures are outside next to a couple old DC-8s that overran the runway years ago (security got uptight when I tried to take a couple photos of them). The departures "lounge" is just off the check-in area and you avoid the metal detectors and x-ray machines of modern airports. I had 6 hours to wait until my flight and the hard seating and floors made me glad it wasn't any longer. There were no flight announcements so if you did manage to sleep here, be careful not to miss your flight."
