I arrived at about 2am from Santiago, so the airport was pretty dead. I didn't see anyone sleeping there (as I've just recently discovered that this is a THING...awesome!)and had already booked a room at a hostel, so I just went straight from the airport into town. The staff there is very friendly and efficient. There was no need for me to go to the airport hours early like most larger airports for my departing flight. I pretty much got there 30 minutes before my flight and check-in was a breeze. This airport doesn't have all the fancy amenities of a larger one, but the restrooms and gate area were clean and I would have had no problem sleeping there if the need arose. If you're flying to Punta Arenas, you're likely on your way to Antarctica or Patagonia anyway (in my case, both) so spending a night at this airport would hardly be 'roughing it'. P.S. This airport did not smell like smoke, as mentioned in a previous review.
