tell us how much this airport rocked!

"I did not sleep at this airport, but as a fan of the site I did check for 'sleepability'.

First off, the airport is tiny. There there are school gyms that are larger than the terminal as a whole and the check-in area is about the size of a large living room. There are no seats in the check-in area and there is only one check-in counter. Since this is a Ryanair airport most people have only carry-on and online check-in, they go directly to the security check and then take a seat at the gate. There is only one gate and again it is about the size of a large living room. The gate area was sufficiently comfy, there were seats on benches with no armrests.

I doubt that you can sleep at this airport, I suppose they close it when there are no flights scheduled within the next 2-3 hours. If you need to sleep there your best bet is the gate area, to get there you need to have carry-on luggage only.

As the situation is currently (Nov 09) I would recommend staying at a hostel in Leipzig and then taking the bus to the airport. Alternatively there are also several affordable options in nearby Altenburg, just ask the tourist information service in Altenburg. The cheapest option for a single traveller nearby is probably the DJH-hostel in the village of Windischleuba approx. 10 kms away from the airport. The airport bus to and from Leipzig also stops at Altenburg, from there it is possible to take a local bus to the hostel at Windischleuba."

"Is this an airport? I thought it was a hangar! If you rent a car from Hertz I suggest you stick it into the overflow in the car park cos we couldn't find the designated Hertz spaces. The terminal is a narrow rectangle with every space crammed with amenities or people! If have an on-line check in, there is a booth where you get your boarding pass stamped (next to the entrance). At least all the staff were friendly which made this place just about tolerable. There was no sign for the priority boarding so people were queueing all over the damn place and the inevitable surge took place when the terminal doors were opened. It's a damn small place! I doubt if its open overnight...."
