The place is the most similar thing to a hostel that you can find and on top of that, it's totally free! which is of great appreciation because Milano is a painfully expensive city.
You can save 18-20 by sleeping in this airport because it looks like a dorm, seriously! Its equipment is very basic and you'll have to sleep in hard chairs, but most of the people have their own sleeping bags and sleep comfortably on the floor.
There are people loafing around without T-shirt or without shoes as if they were in their homes (I did it!) and no one gives a hoot. But make sure you arrive early because there are LOTS AND LOTS of people sleeping there.
The guards let you sleep in peace all night, but at 5 a.m they wake everybody up 'cause the airport become operational.

We spent there at least 6 hours at night waiting for c/i. there're lots of people sleeping in lobby on the floor (some of them even had blankets and pillows and food with them), some people slept on the benches (not so many of them by the way). 1 part of the airport lobby was closed (for departures, it was opened only at 4 or 5 am) so all the people slept in the arrivals area. securities were rather friendly, but toilet was closed for 1 hour and there were no places to buy food at all (cafes were closed, no vending machines)! and a lady with a vacuum cleaner annoyed everybody for half of the night( after c/i as usually (duty free, cafes with very expensive pizza (4 Eu for a small one), cushioned benches.
I didn't like this airport at all but if u have food with u and maybe a blanket or smth to lie at it's a good place for overnight because u want be bothered by securities (till 4 or 5 when all the areas - arrivals and deps will be opened) but even after u can go on lying somewhere near the wall or on benches but there're really lots of people there).
