"I stayed at Bucharest Aurel Vlaicu Airport (former Baneasa - BBU), which is the second airport in size, after Henri Coanda (former Ottopeni - OTP). It was on December 13th, 2004, when I got to the airport, me and a friend, in the middle of the night, around 2-3 AM; the day before I saw on the website of the first low cost airline in Romania, Blue Air, that they are giving away, for free, seats on their first flight; we would have to pay only the airport taxes. And never having flown before, I said that I need to get to the airport in the middle of the night, not to miss this offer.

This airport is no bigger than a small bus station, with only a few counters, a bathroom and 2 gates (more like doors to the tarmac). The security officers didn't say anything, like what are we doing there at that hour; they just didn't pay attention to us. Being the first people to arrive at the airport that day, we got our boarding cards and we were ready for our first flight. But the flight was 5-6 hours away. We tried to kill some time, because sleeping was not really an option. The seats are just horrible. I guess they were from the 60s, like the airport, because everything looks old, except the security area. So if you're planning on sleeping in this airport, you'd better not.

The flight was nice, on a Boeing 737-300, but we were only 4 people in the aircraft, and 5 crew members. We drank Champaign during the 45 minute flight to Timisoara. It felt weird when you were seeing so many empty seats. I guess I would never get in a plane with so few people; since then I flew lots of times, but they were most of time very crowded."
