"Erfurt is a secondary airport for charter flights close to the cultural city of Weimar. Our plane was the only one in the airport on both arrival and departure!

1. Pick up your baggage before passport control - didn't see any customs (I guess the guards will pull you outta the passport queue if they want to check you out) but everyone was friendly enough.

2. Taxis (10 euros) or a shuttle bus (1.50 euros) to the city centre railway station (about 20 minutes). The shuttle bus leaves from the Departures Terminal where you can sit inside on the comfy chairs until the bus arrives. Although the sign by the stand tells you to get your ticket inside Arrivals, you actually buy it on the bus (yeah, theres a ticket machine on the bus!) - but you need loose change. No notes. Luckily the driver let me on for free. I guess he didn't realise I was a Brit - he sent the other Brits back to the terminal to get change - and thought I was someones mail order Thai groom ha ha! Well, Erfurt did seem to have a lotta fat German guys with tiny Thai women...!

3. The metal detector was an old east german one that seemed to go off every 3rd person or something. It bleeped for me and the guy scanned me - nothing. Move on. 3 people later same thing. Move on. Man, after 2 hours of that....!

4. The gate area had bucket seats and poor ventiliation (take plenty of water in the summer!) although it had a bar with cool beer and a small gift shop guaranteeing 20 lower prices than the rest of the EU."
