"Oh god where do I start. Falun 25th July 2004. We where officially staying in Stockholm and having attended two concerts for Gyllene Tider we decided we needed more so we hopped onto a train to the next tour destination of Falun!
Falun on a Sunday was rather like a ghost town until the Swedish taxi driver took us to the point of the concert and all we saw was the queue for the entry.
Okay fast forward because you dont want to know everything, but concert was over and at this point we where cold, tired and needed to sleep. We spotted one hotel in the middle of this town and decided to head there to see if we could get a room. Huh? Not a chance, apart from the fact most of the hotel was taken up by the band. In the end we called a taxi and ended up at the train station baring in mind our train back to Stockholm was not till 6am, it was now around Midnight. The train station was deserted the little waiting area was all locked up and the lighting was pretty much non existent. We tried to keep warm and sat on two wooden benches. I got freaked out by these strange guys hanging around and so there was no chance I was going to sleep. My companion could sleep anywhere!
Moving on I decided to call a taxi back to the hotel as I was far to scared to hang around the train station. We ended up spending an hour or so in the foyer of the hotel until we felt our presence was not required and the poor guy on reception didnt have a clue. So we got the message and walked back to the train station.
We found yet another bench and at the point lack of sleep made me hyper so we wrote out names on it in black pen! (aww we where graffiti chicks).
Moving on eventually someone god knows who open up the waiting area. By this point there was quite a few people hanging around, and so grabbing a bench in there was like gold dust.
The benches not bad for comfort, but I couldnt sleep as the lighting was too bright and there was this guy cleaning up not to mention the constant banging of the toilet doors. I eventually decided to wait outside, the sun was up and the train was in and I was determined not to bloody miss it. My travel companion fell asleep in the waiting area and had to be woken up to board the train!
Finally on the train, warm and comfortable we both slept pretty much all the way back to Stockholm (2 hours) and arrived there someone groggy and looking like tramps) We had less than 3 hours to pack and check out the hotel and make our way to the airport for the flight home.
So Falun, it was not all bad, I have some funny memories of that trip and that train station night. Would I do it again! Yes!!!
Flight KLM from Stockholm to Manchester via Amsterdam on 26th July 2004 (If you remember the two English girls... who slept most of the entire journey home... that was us)
My own bed was heaven that evening! "
