I spend a night in Helsinki Railwaystation with my friend in december 2005 waiting for the first morning trains. We found our way to a hall of some shop/bank where there were also homeless people and other people waiting for the trains. We slept couple hours and it was pretty calm, we also got our share from the wine bottle that was offered to everyone by one hobo. It was warm but the airconditioning made a lot of noise. I don't know were we actually inside the station but the rails of the trains were just 30 m (or so) away and there were guards (who didn't throw us out) so I also felt quite safe. There is/was also McDonalds quite near the station that is open till 5am (on weekends).

"Arrived in Helsinki via a long night bus from Rovaniemi in the north, to find that the only beds available were far out of our price range, and the campsite was too far to go for only one night.
So, we hit upon the 'bright' idea of sleeping in the train station. At 10pm we were moved from the only seats in the entire place, as that half of the station was being closed. Then while we stretch out on the floor for a couple of hours in the arrivals hall, guards continually try to wake you up - definitely need two of you, sleep in shifts.
At 1am we were turfed out side into the pouring rain (thankfully there's a roof over the tracks now) and freezing cold. Tried to sleep on a bench around 20cm wide with an ad hoarding attached - completely impossible.
But the best bit - the drunks. Everywhere. Demanding money, screaming at you, wanting to be your friend - whatever it was, they wouldn't leave anyone alone.
My advice? Go to the bus station over the road. "
