"In January 1995, after arriving in Paris too late for the last train to Calais, I waited and took the last train (a TGV in fact) to Lille; arriving at 12:30am. Smart idea it turned out to be, because the staff at the old station (not the new eurostar terminal) are used to having poor folks overnight it. Me and 3 other people were escorted to the station waiting room (a small glassed-off room next to the departure tracks) and safely locked in for the night. Although the benches were of the bucket variety, it was otherwise a positive experience s it was quiet and warm. At 5:30am, we were all escorted out, when the station reopened for the new day. My advice: DON'T EXPECT THIS TO WORK IF YOU JUST SHOW UP FROM OUTSIDE, YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE LAST TRAIN!!!"
