Palermo Train Station

"On an extended bum around Italy with my girlfriend, we found ourselves for a week in Palermo, which is to be highly recommended as a beautiful slum. It should be noted that the last train for the North leaves before 9pm -- we missed it by five minutes and spent a night there that we rate (out of five stars):

There are no seats and the floor smells slightly of vomit. However on the plus side, the police are beautifully dressed. We chatted with one of them about a three legged dog that lives at the station. His name is Il Canna Abandanato. There is an excellent social security system in Sicily that must also be mentioned: all of the bums and winos that turn up at the station before closing get classed as respectable, and are allowed to sleep in the warm waiting room. This is fine by me, but L has a minor phobia of leering drunkards capable of projectile vomiting. With minimal sweet talking you can convince the station police to let you sleep in the station itself near the ticketing booths."
