"A bit cold, but bring a good sleeping bag and you'll be OK. The official waiting rooms are unbearable, but find a nice bench near Platform 1 and you'll be fine - v quiet part of the station at night. Not as good as Munich, but way ahead of average. "

"First of all, I'm sorry I'm rating a train station, but I did sort of sleep there (though I, in particular, did not actually *fall* asleep)- actually, stayed there overnight would be more like it. My friends and I were coming from Amsterdam by train and had the unfortunate luck of getting to Stuttgart on the last train, which arrives at midnight. No trains leave after that until 6 a.m., we were told (tho one did come at 5:30a.m., which we ran for and missed). So we first put our stuff in lockers. We had no choice but to stay in the bahnhof, as it was January, and incidentally, one of the coldest Januaries in Germany in quite some time- definitely below freezing- and there was no heat in the main part, either. We wandered around for a bit and found a nice heated stairwell, so we all threw our coats on the ground and stretched out. After a while, some of my friends went "out" for a smoke, which is when I think the guards saw them. Two of my friends left to go find a WC down the stairs- including the only one of us who knows enough Deutsche to communicate to the guards without using charades- when suddenly two guards came up to us and started yelling at us in German. We asked them, "Sprechen Sie Englisch?" to which we got the curt reply, "Nein." And then we got a blast of more German, the only recognisable words being, "Raus! Raus! Bahnhof!" and at that point the guards pointed towards this little room with a bunch of people in it- it looked like a drunk tank with seats! We tried to tell them that we had friends who had left to find a WC, but we finally just had to leave without them. Alas, we did run into them on the way to the little room . . . When I walked into the room, I nearly hurled from the stench which smelled like a nasty mixture of piss, puke and body odour. My friend started gagging. There was no way we were going to sit in there! Finally, we managed to coax a hotel manager into letting us "sleep" in his lobby connected to the bahnhof. It was slightly warmer than the bahnhof itself,"
