Airport Adventures:
BRUSSELS CHARLEROI AIRPORT

by Jonathan

"(International Terminal) - To save some money and because of my late arrival to Brussels, I decided to stay at the airport overnight before my connecting flight. I had to stay in public area (non-transit). First I went to the uppermost floor, but found it difficult to sleep, especially after a vacuum cleaner arrived! I wandered around the terminal for some time and to my pleasure, found two chapels. The protestant chapel was already occupied so I went to the catholic one. It consisted of two rooms, I chose the posterior one. Actually I had a good night there. Few worshippers dropped in the chapel, but didn't enter the room I was in.

On the morning I learned my flight was cancelled, and next one to my destination would leave 24 hours later. I decided to stay the second night in some cheap hostel. But after walking door to door, I learned all of them were full. To made my things worse, I got robbed near the Brussels city centre, I lost my wallet and mobile phone. After consulting the police I immediately left that disgusting city and went to the airport.

I was really tired and frustrated and I had no problems in sleeping. This time I opted for protestant chapel. Soon after me another person arrived there, a local bum who spends all nights in that chapel! He was very friendly. I'm curious whether he still spends his nights there."
