Airport Adventures:
LUXEMBOURG AIRPORT

by Anne

"I was working for a couple in France and before I came home I wanted to stay a night in Paris by myself (I was 18 at the time) and so to do so would mean I'd be basically broke on my way home. I figured I could just sleep in the Luxembourg Airport and nobody would notice. Well, they close the airport up at night! I started panicking about what I would do if they told me I had to stay outside. It was springtime and I was alone and nearly penniless. Just as I was contemplating what I would do another young traveler, Yolonda, came over and asked timidly "What time does your flight leave?" I said "tomorrow" and she responded "mine too". We laughed out loud and decided that whatever happened we would stick together. She could barely speak English but somehow we understood each other. We got the guards to let us stay inside for the night, sleeping on the floor was the most comfortable place, thank goodness for our duffle bags. The next morning we washed our hair in the bathroom sink and hugged each other goodbye as we ran for our flights.

My parents were not impressed at the time, but it was definitely an adventure. Just wanted to share, I would never want to stay in that airport again, but at least they didn't throw us out like a couple of gypsies!"
