REVIEWS Paris - Charles de Gaulle ..... Rookie July, 2007 most disorganised airport We thought getting to CDG five hours before our flight and flying business class would be a relaxing experience, we were sadly mistaken. Nearly missed our flight!! due to arrogant staff and the most disorganised airport in our extensive travel experience. The terminal had not been touched since its initial construction 50 years before im sure. No airconditioning in mid July, rude and condescending staff who were disorganised. Finally we arrived at our packed gate to discover that the gate had been changed at the last minute. The scene then was reminscent of one of the scenes from the movie (Airplane) with a mad rush from one terminal to another with less than half hour for sceduled departure time. This is the reason why, when we returned to France twice but flown in to Geneva and driven to Paris.
Istanbul - Ataturk ..... raywillrob August, 2009 one of the better airports Having just read adverse reports of Istanbul Ataturk -- I assume international - I disagree strongly with the comments made. The terminal is modern with lots of room in the check in area, friendly staff, toilets that are constantly cleaned and many eating places with good food.
Ok the domestic terminal (previously the international ) is not as modern but toilets are kept spotless and many places to have a snack.
I have passed through this airport each year for 20 years and have never found it to be other than a pleasant experience. Ray
Hong Kong - Hong Kong ..... tanjap01 January, 2010 I love this airport - can I move in? This airport is has everything you could need - great facilities, plenty of super-clean toilets, free internet use on provided computers, free wi fi, heaps of shops to browse and plenty of places to eat. They also have reclining lounge chairs in some areas.
During the day, the airport is noisy, with beeping from the little transit vans happening constantly. There is a pay-in lounge with showers etc, but I couldn't find it, being too jetlagged to figure it all out.
I didn't stay overnight, but I found this airport fantastic for my long stop overs during the day. I wish that all airports could be this great. I loved it as much as Singapore airport.
Doha - Doha ..... tanjap01 January, 2010 Doha Airport - bearable, but avoid if you can This airport is bearable - but only just. There is plenty of room in theory, but Qatar clearly dump way too many people here for connecting flights, making finding a space to sleep impossible and also resulting in overcrowding at times.
The 'sleep' room didn't have enough seats and was completely full for the entire 7 hrs I was there during the night. Every corner was also taken in the seating areas and staff closed a large section of the airport seating from 2am until the morning flights. In all honesty, I've never actually seen so many people trying to sleep in an airport overnight.
The facilities are also very limited. There are no computers for internet use (only wi-fi rooms) and there are no showers. The airport is also small and boring, with only 2 shops to browse. One gift shop and one duty free shop. They will accept Euro/Usd and there are 2 coffee shops that have ok coff...
Tangier - Ferry ..... hatchling November, 2009 Don't linger Arrival at Tangier on the ferries is chaotic, yet rather efficient. They know how to move people along, although a bit rudely. I could not recommend trying to sleep at this terminal, as comfort is minimal and there is little sign of security. Admittedly, I was just in transit and didn't search out sleeping areas, but from what I saw, it would not be comfortable or safe. If one wants to try it, knowing some French might help. Also, a tip might help. Porters are everywhere outside, useful and cheap.
Manila - 3 ..... Night Owl Tony November, 2009 A refreshing change from Terminals 1 & 2 Ah, terminal 3...it's heaven by comparison to the old terminals. It's a surprising reward for flying a budget carrier. If you're using Cebu Pacific or PAL, you'll be flying in and out of Terminal 3.
Lots of security getting in, so be prepared for long queues. Once through though, it's all shiny and new.
Clean, neat, lots of seats (head up to arrivals overnight),toilets are clean, security is bored but friendly, and the food places are reasonable. Just a bit bright, so bring that blindfold.
If you get hassled, tell them you're waiting for your friend to pick you up.
They don't seem to mind you plugging in your cellphone into a wall socket to recharge either.
If you're getting a taxi out of there, go up to arrivals and hail one down. It'll save you 20-30,and the driver will be in a good mood.
Now for the downside: Flights leave here very early, so don't expect much sleep...
Florence - ..... belleceramique June, 2004 Don't even try it The Florence airport closes for the night, so unless you want to wait outside in the cold until they reopen at 5 am, it's not worth it. The check-in stations don't even become operational until after 6 anyway, and the first flights leave around 7:30.
Paris - Charles De Gaulle ..... aussiestudent February, 2009 Depends on the terminal Stayed here one night in Feb 09 in transit from Sydney to Nice. I wandered around terminal 2 a bit looking for somewhere comfy to chill for the night. Most of the sub terminals only have hard benches with armrests which is annoying. All of the alcoves with some form of privacy or security were taken by drunk, smelly homeless people (Paris is infested with them). After an hour of walking around, I found an open cafe in terminal 2E or F (I think) which was surrounded by a very large circular comfy lounge. Me and a few other travellers in transit claimed this area and kind of blocked it off with the cafe's tables and chairs to alert us when someone was trying to get in.
Saw many strange people.. some deluded tranny guy who tried to dress like a 12 year old girl, but still used the guys bathrooms. Security and the police came through at about 3am to check passports and boarding passes, k...
gold coast - all ..... joe January, 2010 absolute joke and embarassing disgusting, horrible, unsafe, totally disrespectful of anyone with an awareness higher than a snail, dangerous
London - Stansted ..... belleceramique November, 2004 Sense of community I had to catch the 6 am National Express to Edinburgh, so I had no choice but to sleep it out at Stansted. Curled up on top of my duffel bag in a lobby seat. Fellow travelers were very courteous. I didn't even really talk to anyone else, but everyone just seemed to instinctively watch out for each other. I felt very safe.
