unpredictable Check-in Troubles for Non-Eu Passengers

(Guest Review) Krakow airport is the worst airport for non-EU passengers. The airport authorities can create awful and unpredictable situation to a Non-EU passenger in security checking process because they don't know the international passengers' rights and laws. On 5th October I traveled to Athens via Stansted, Uk. As a non-EU passenger I always carry and check all necessary documents before flying. On 5th October I had a flight at 6:45 am to Stansted, London (transit)-Athens, Greece. In the morning I completed all security and passport checking process in time. After that I waited for final check-in before flight. However, it was one of the worst experiences in my life. I was in a queue to show my ticket, Polish residence card and passport to the authorities. I noticed that they even didn't check documents of EU passengers. However, when my turn comes they treated me as a criminal!, First the lady who checked the documents laughed at me cause I have an Indian passport and told me to go the corner and stand until other passengers check their tickets. They checked all documents once again and said I am not allowed to fly without any reason! In that moment all passengers were staring at me as if they caught an illegal immigrant! , I said I can prove that I am eligible to fly with my valid European Union residence card (karta pobytu). However, they behaved rudely and shouted on me because I am not a European. I asked them several time to contact higher authorities to clear this issue. In the end, they made several calls and finally came to know from their superiors that I am legally eligible to fly in Europe with an European residence permit and valid passport!, So, finall continued >>

Krakow Airport Review

(Guest Review) Could be the fact there is work going on at this airport. But it is the worst airport we have been at in recent years. You have no access to any of the main duty free shops, but have to watch others travellers in different lounges being able to shop whilst there are limited facilities (Gate 3 and 4). There is a steel roller shutter closed off between the lounge and the shops. Limited food. Prepacked low quality food from the one kiosk. The staff are totally disinterested, and spent more time chatting to their colleages, and couldn't be bothered serving. Then the woman on the 'I Love Krakow' stand was unpleasant and so rude. It became the entertainment - with all the travellers watching how rude she was to people, and fed up facial expressions. She even told off one customer because she said she wasn't ready to serve them yet. Everyone who was in our lounge was totally confused by the whole set up, and none of the staff were interested in offering information or advice on the set-up. I;ve never been in any airport where the shops were segregated depending on your gate number, and what minimal facilities there were only opened 2hrs before flights. That and the fact that our gate was overcrowded with travellers from 2 different flights 30 minutes apart being herded in to gate 3, with only about half the amount of seats needed. All I can hope is that when the construction work is complete things improve.

Krakw Airport was OK if you are in a pinch

by creativetravler (October, 2009)

Reason for Stay: Too cheap for a hotel room
Where: Landside and Airside
Pros: clean, no hassles by staff, nice bathrooms, no armrests on some chairs
Cons: boring

I slept at the Krakw Airport in 2009. It was fine and rather small and cozy. No hassles from airport workers.

You can't feel lonely

Reason for Stay: No Money
Where: Landside

I spent a quite good night at this airport. Arrived at 11.30 pm and stayed there till 10 am. There is a restaurant-cafeteria opened all night on the second floor, so you can eat or drink anything at any time. Food's good and quite cheap and the TV is on throughout the night, but not very loud so you can sleep without any problem. Several seats without armrest and good temperature. The night just flew by!

good to sleep

by imitationoflife (November, 2009)

Reason for Stay: Other
Where: Landside

On the ground floor there are places for you to sleep but they're too eye-catching as located in the main corridor in front of the check-ins. There's a better place to sleep on the 1st floor but still too few benches, which were quite uncomfortable but satisfactory. Guards were checking the place all over for the whole night so we felt safe, even with not so much luggage with us.
