Mexicali Train Station

"I spent a night here in December of 1991. I'd arrived at midnight on a bus from Tijuana and didn't want the hassle or expense of finding a room since the train left early in the morning. The train station is only 10 blocks from the bus station, so save the rip off cab fare and walk (I was traveling alone and am a small woman, but I didn't feel in any danger). The train station was (and probably still is) a mess. It was filthy and cold, but still crowded with other (native) Mexican travelers spending the night. Since tickets are first come, first severed, the only real way to get a seat, especially around holidays, is to queue up the night before. It was at least dark, and I arranged my packs underneath me and actually fell asleep in the line. Try to avoid the bathroom as it was completely covered in trash and excrement."
