"Entering Mexico at Tijuana on the Greyhound from LA we knew we had to get our passports stamped with an entry visa before leaving the free zone or risk possibly causing a bureaucratic nightmare of the type of which the Mexicans can be so fond. However the Mexican consulate office at Tijuana bus station was open but empty. The machine gun-toting police shrugged and said that the man might be back later, but that we were welcome to go in and wait for him. We fell asleep on the office sofa until the passport guy rocked up four hours later complete with stamp. Tijuana bus station is fairly large and clean with a selection of shops and hot food places and a choice of toilets: free or paying. Tijuana airport is small-ish but very clean and staff were extra helpful. We shared a flight with people who checked in a toilet and a couple of crates of roosters. A fashion tip: for gentlemen, the stetson/tight navy jeans/leather jacket/cowboy boots combo is de rigueur this season."
