What to Expect

Tuxtla Airport (code: TGZ) has a small, newly-built terminal. Facilities are very limited, but the good news is there’s free WiFi. If you are looking for comfort while you wait, economy class passengers can pay to enter the airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for its location and access information.

Sleeping in Tuxtla Airport

The airport closes nightly from around 11:30PM until 4:00AM so it is not possible to stay overnight inside the terminal. For uninterrupted sleep, you’ll have to head into Tuxtla Gutierrez, about 40 minutes away. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Minibus

Travel like the locals do! If your load is light, you can travel at a fraction of the price of a taxi by taking a “colectivo” (shared-ride minibus), which pass along a road just a short walk from the airport parking lot.

Taxis

Prepaid taxis are readily available for hire in the ground transportation areat. There are four different taxi companies, named by color: Blue, Orange, Red and Green. Stop at the Prepaid Taxi booth in the Arrivals hall to pay for your ride. You will receive a ticket to give to your taxi driver before boarding the taxi. To return to the airport, call “Blue Taxis”. At the time of this update, a one-way journey from the airport to the hotel zone takes 45 minutes and costs about 350 Pesos ($24.00 US approximately).
