I had a early morning flight so I came to the airport in the afternoon - the last public bus around 5 pm There are some sits outside, but I felt safer inside. After midnight they close everything but some people usually stay there. On the 1st floor there are some stores-closed during the night, so one can sleep on the floor.

"Surprsingly no one has commented on this airport before. I arrived there just before midnight from LAX with about a 6 hour layover en route to Tonga. Airport staff were friendly and helpful. The large arrivals and departures hall was an open air setup with lights on all the time and a fair amount of noise. It was possible to sleep on benches in short snippets, and many other people did so. Area seems quite safe. Money changers, etc. had booths along one wall. The smaller airport on the other side of the island is for short hops to American Samoa. That one was just two rooms, one of them open air with chickens pecking around early in the a.m."
