Can sleep just a few metres outside the terminal, under large canvas canopies. Is well lit, clean and quiet. No hassles.
A YHA hostel is only about 7 minutes walk away.
Could also sleep on the beach, about 10 minutes walk away.

"Don't try to sleep at the Gold Coast Airport (OOL). Although it is getting bigger, the latest flight leaves at 9:30pm an the earliest one at 6:00am so they close and lock the doors at night. Don't even try, it is not worth loosing a night hoping that you will manage to stay in. We had a 6am departure so we slept at the Kirra Tourist Park just a few hundred meters away just off the Gold Coast Highway. It is cheap camping and seriously, if you arrive pass 8-9pm, you can easily throw your tent without getting caught (no fences but leave your car in a nearby street) if you leave early the next morning."
