"Have to comment on the first entry in this category which is about airports in the Kingdom of Tonga, not Tongareva! Tongareva is in the Cook Islands Northern Group of Islands, also known as Penrhyn Island, and indeed, the airstrip there was build in WWII! A very remote place in the world and I'm sure here one either finds a good place to sleep or he just shouldn't be here!"

"i was in tonga for a few days in january this year....just in time for a cyclone. i was due to fly out at midnight on wednesday. the cyclone lasted 24hrs from midday tuesday to midday wednesday. all seemed fine for me to fly out as scheduled wednesday night, except that it would be a crowded flight as the wednesday morning flight had been cancelled, not postponed, due to the cyclone. we arrived at the tin shack the call an international airport on wednesday night, to find out the plane was going to be a few hrs late. i checked in and made my way through security to the departure area. the departure area consisted of uncomfortable plastic chairs, average toilets, duty free shop, souvenir shop (no food or drink though) much needed air conditioning, and dirty lino floor. at about 3.20am they announced that the plane was about to arrive and everyone should be in the departure area ready to board (the planes just fly in and back out of this tiny island airport) we heard the plane fly over us and the next thing there was an announcement that the plane couldn't land due to fog and had gone back to Auckland, NZ! i spent the night on the dirty lino floor...."
