  • mexico city - Benito Juarez International Airport ... ..... yodaking20 March, 2010
Worst airport experience I have had.
I missed a connecting flight at this airport. I thought that was bad enough, but what it took for me to book another flight and no place to sit-sleep for 12 hours overnight was a nightmare. Finding where I had to go with the lack of visible signage, multiple differing directions from airport personal, and the pathetic attitudes of the security guards had me make multiple tracks throughout the terminal to no avail. I hope to never again fly to or from this airport again!

    no sleep for international travelers
While traveling from Costa Rica to the USA we had a 12 hour layover in the Mexico City airport and thought it would be a good idea to sleep in the international terminal for a few hours. Bad idea...just as we are turning in for the night, a security guard tells us we have to leave and can't return til 4 am. We are ushered out to the public/check-in area where we don't consider it to be a good idea to try to sleep, we ended up on the 3rd floor outside American Airlines Baggage Service Office where so far only employees and the occasional lost passenger has wandered by. Not comfortable, but a few of us caught a few minutes of sleep. I'm posting this as I'm standing watch over our carry-ons (and obviously found some WiFi to 'borrow') so I'll update when this is over...4am, they let us back in the international terminal, go through security, etc...and stretch out at our terminal, ah, finally...

Clean, safe, but not exactly comfy
I had to sleep here on my way from Quito (via Panama City) to London (via Atlanta - fun trip). I was surprised at how clean and safe it was. I slept on the floor with my head on my bag (one downside was that I wasn't able to check my luggage all the way through so I had to drag my bag about) and nobody bothered me until about 6am, when a security guard apologetically indicated that I should move to the cafe area, which was just opening. It was quite bright, and bunch of local guys were playing cards quite loudly, so I didn't sleep all that well, but I was surprised that I didn't get robbed or worse. Restaurants and stuff are okay, with a decent selection. The place with the giant plane in it does a really nice fresh lemonade.

    DO NOT DO IT
This is a creepy place with lurkers. No way I'd do it again. You cannot even trust the security guards!

    don't try to sleep here
I don't know where 'lreyes' was but it wasn't the mexico city airport: I've lived here for 8 years and I fly in-and-out dozens of times a year. There is no WiFi, unless you already have a paid account with provider. Don't take my word for it: read all the other reviews of this airport and then decide.

Sleeping under Busts of Mexican Aviation Giants
A double-decker flight from Tokyo jammed up the customs line and I missed my connecting flight to Guadalajara. Thinking I had a chance to book another flight that evening, I rushed out of the boarding area and into the main terminal. No flights until morning. And because I didn't have a boarding pass for a flight that night, security wouldn't let me return to the boarding area, where carpeted floors and chairs were available. Despite being an enormous city, the airport stores and cafes were all closed by 10:00pm. I ran down to Sala A, caught the subway, and headed downtown for a quick peak at the Zocalo. Many folks warned me against traveling solo through the city, but I had no trouble. To be safer, I locked my bag at an airport locker for 70MX. There's only one place to sleep in the terminal, behind a glass-walled gallery near Sala E. There you'll find all of your fellow str...

    An awful experience
Immigration area closes 1 am and open 4 am. When I arrived 11 30 pm from my national flight but I couldnt go to the Immigration area so I had to stay out. There are no confortable chairs, just some hard seats in the fast food area, the enviroment was so cold that I had to drink a lot of hot chocolate and coffee all night. Some people were sleeping on the floor, men most of them, so I didnt feel secure. Then, in the immigration area was colder. The immigration guard delayed 40 min to attend us at 4 am. Conclusion: it was an awful experience :(

    The new terminal is NICE!!
What a nice place. Free WIFI and just a walk to the food court and restrooms. Some stores open the whole night, including a mini 7-Eleven. The place for a good sleep was the departure area L1, just lay in the soft carpet anywhere, but the best place is against the wall. The security guys there are nice and welcoming. If you ask, they even watch your stuff when you to to the bathroom. Bring your eye mask, since the lights are on and intense.

    Could be worse
Could be worse. Other reviews are true- you are not allowed to sleep in many areas of the airport, and the security will come over and tell you to move. I think I remember there being an occasional television in Spanish, and there were gift shops. Don't remember if there were places to eat or not. Temperature good.

    No Connection
All seating is only within the airline check in areas and because all airlines are shut down there is no place to sit. The one restaurant had rats scurrying along the base of the banquettes and the staff all watched reruns of old Mannix tv shows.
