"I spent an unscheduled night at Amarillo International Airport recently due to storms that closed Dallas-Fort Worth. It was boring but nice. The airport shuts down completely by midnight; restaurants by 11pm. Security was cool---in fact, I never saw anybody. The only interaction I had w/staff was lifting my feet so the cleaning guy could push his buffer under my seat. Most of the chairs had armrests that prevented spreading out, but I did find an area in the Southwest section next to some giant kiddy toys where I could roll up my jacket and lay down. No escape from fluorescent lighting or the "keep your baggage in sight at all times" recording. For entertainment, there was a coin-operated pool table, a little computer kiosk for Pantex (the folks who make nuclear weapons) with a sort of "Radiation is our friend" documentary, and a video arcade with games that were old when I was a teenager. Thank God I had a book. Be sure and wake up in time (@6:00a) to scam some of the free donuts and coffee put out for the earlybird Southwest Air flights."
