Austin-Bergstrom Airport Guide
In this section you will find traveller airport reviews as well as our Austin-Bergstrom Airport Guide with info on WiFi, lounges, facilities and services....and yes, even the name of a hotel near the airport in case you decide that sleeping in the airport is not for you!
Around midnight they kicked everyone sleeping out of our comfy Southwest Airlines chairs (leather, nice!) and I found the mezzanine the perfect sleeping spot! - defiant
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, we are here to give you the low-down on what travellers have reported back to us during their time at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
What to expect
- Austin Airport is a small and pleasant airport that some reviewers describe as efficient and easy to navigate.
- The airport features a live music stage featuring local musicians (cool!), a unique variety of shopping and dining options, clean facilities and lots of bathrooms and power outlets.
- Airport shops and restaurants close at night. Vending machines are available but sell a limited variety of snacks, so stash a take-out meal for later!
- The airport provides free WiFi and internet kiosks. See WiFi below.
Where to Sleep
- After security checkpoints close for the night, passengers are restricted to landside only. Passengers sleeping airside will be required to go back to landside until security reopens, and will need to clear security again to re-enter.
- The Mezzanine is a quiet, carpeted area preferred by many of our reviewers. Power outlets, panoramic views of the airport’s interior and no overhead announcements are some of the bonuses to sleeping here, however there are no bathrooms up there. To reach the Mezzanine, take the elevator from the ground floor. From the Baggage Claim area, take either the solo elevator near the stairs OR the leftmost elevator of the triple set of elevators on the opposite side.
- A few reviews mention the loud and constant overhead announcements that can be heard through most of the airport (excluding the Mezzanine), so keep some earplugs or noise cancelling headphones handy if you want to sleep!
- The leather chairs in the Southwest boarding areas are said to be comfy, but it is not possible to sleep here overnight. You will be moved to the public area of the terminal until the security checkpoints open in the morning.
- For uninterrupted sleep, there is a hotel on airport grounds and several other nearby hotels that offer an airport shuttle. See Airport Hotels below.
