- plastic seats with armrests
by Jim
"In June of 2001 I had the misfortune of being stuck in the Burbank, California chamber of horrors. Our Alaska Airlines flight was delayed, then delayed again, then delayed some more, then cancelled. Because we had e-tickets we had to return to the ticket counter and wait with all of the other lemmings to re-book. My supervisor and I spent more than twelve hours either sitting on the floor of the already crowded terminal or trying to get comfortable where comfort had not been a design parameter. This airport had nothing but chairs with hard plastic seats and backs, welded together at their steel armrests. The airline tossed us a few alms for a smidgen of airport gruel. The air-conditioning was barely adequate, acoustics were terrible (like being inside a tin can tied to a moving train). The most positive thing I can say is that no one was murdered, while we were there. "
