"Hartford's Bradley is a relaxed, medium size airport serving about ten airlines. It can be a great alternative to the hassles of New York and Boston. (For one thing, rental cars can be much cheaper.) Sleeping there is passable. The main problem is that all seating has fixed arm rests, so either you are sleeping contorted on the seats or sleeping on the carpeted floor. (You will do best if you bring a camping pad with you.) All scheduled airlines are now located in the new Terminal A. Secure areas close at night, but baggage claim and ticketing areas remain open. I experienced no hassles sleeping on the baggage claim level and felt completely safe (which can't be said in NY or Boston). As an alternative, there is a Motel 6 (about USD 45/night) only 1.5 miles away. (Take the city bus to get there or the long-term parking shuttle to get close.) If this is a weekend, consider renting a cheap car to sleep in. Public transit is easy and cheap. For USD 1.25, take an hourly city bus to downtown Hartford (passing Motel 6 and lots of food options), where you can catch Amtrak or Megabus to the big cities. Free airport wifi. Usual overpriced food options in terminal. FWIW: Long term parking is cheap: USD 6/day."
