OGG Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Maui-Kahului Airport.

What to Expect

Maui Airport (code: OGG) consists of a small, renovated, partially open-air terminal building with one long concourse. The airport features a decent selection of eateries and shops throughout the terminal. Most of these services close by 10:00PM, but some operate according to flight schedules. WiFi is available, with free and paid faster connections. Additional comfort can be found through fee-based access to the airport’s first-class lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for locations.

Sleeping in Maturin Airport

maui airport guideAfter security checkpoints close for the night, passengers are restricted to the open-air baggage claim area, and must re-clear security the next day when the checkpoints open. Sleeping spots in this area are limited, with reviewers resorting to sleeping on stone benches, airport wheelchairs and a luggage cart. Mosquitoes are everywhere, so bring insect repellent if you plan to spend the night.  Earplugs/noise-cancelling headphones might also come in handy as the airport’s Hawaiian music soundtrack gets loud during the overnight hours. And, given the lack of comfortable seating, bring a travel mat and/or sleeping bag for a bit more comfort. For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels within a quick shuttle ride of the airport. See Airport Hotels in the guide below or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s web site for current information.  For more airport information continue scrolling down to explore more in our Maui Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
