After a wonderful and relaxing trip to the Bahamas over New Year's, my fiancee and I were headed back into West Palm on Bahamasair. Our flight back home on Delta didn't leave until the next morning, so we had booked a room at a resort hotel in West Palm.
Due to the morons at Bahamasair, we didn't get in until 17 hours after we were supposed to; an 11 am arrival on a direct flight became a marathon with connections through Nassau and then ground transport from Miami. This got us into PBI at 4:00 am, and with our 7:00 am flight, there was no reason to go to the hotel even if they hadn't already let our room go... so we decided to try to catch some shut-eye in PBI.
Even though the airport was shut down at the time, the stupid "please don't accept bags from strangers and don't leave your luggage unattended" announcements blared every 10 minutes through loudspeakers. We found some reasonably soft chairs in the check-ins area and used our luggage as footrests to make "beds" of them but got little sleep with the announcements going on. Worse, at 5:00 or so the staff started testing the security checkpoints (just downstairs from where we were) and set the alarms on the metal detectors off nearly continuously until 6:00 am when the airport began opening.
People started lining up to check in around 5:20, so for our 7am flight we had to then get up and stand in line so as to be able to actually make check-in an hour before. The automated kiosks didn't turn on until 6:15 with nearly everyone having 6:30 and 7:00 flights, so the place was already a mess well before that--don't count on ANY sleep after say 5:45 am there."
