FNA Airport Overview

freetown airport guideTo help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Freetown Lungi International Airport.

What to Expect

The terminal at Freetown Airport (code: FNA) previously functioned as a military airport but was updated in the last several years to serve commercial flights. Located on an estuary and surrounded by water, ferries are the most common way to reach the airport.

Restrooms can be dirty or non-functioning. There are a few basic shopping and dining options, including a landside restaurant and two airside options. WiFi is available in the Business Center and the airport lounge, which some passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Freetown Airport

With ferry service stopping by 1:00AM, travellers often camp out here until morning – but do arrive before the terminal closes for the night. Armrest-free benches are scattered throughout the airport and a blanket and pillow provided added comfort. For uninterrupted sleep, a nearby hotel offer shuttle service. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s web site for current information.  For more airport information continue scrolling down to explore more in our Freetown Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.

Sea Coach Express offers a water taxi service between the airport and town. You’ll see the water taxi station when you exit the airport and walk to the right. This option is faster than the ferry, taking about 30 minutes, but costs around $40 USD for a ticket.
