What to Expect

mandalay airport guideMandalay Airport (code: MDL) has a small but modern pagoda-shaped terminal that is rarely busy. Travellers report relaxed security procedures. You will find 12 restaurants/cafes to choose from, with options available both Landside and Airside, as well as a decent amount of shops (including Duty-Free) to pass the time. WiFi is available to pass the time. An airport lounge is available.  See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Mandalay Airport

We do not yet have any sleep-related airport reviews.  Have a backup plan if you’re planning to spend the night. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so check your bank’s fee schedule and daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Location: Arrival and Departure Levels.

Baggage Carts – Need a hand with your luggage? Baggage carts are available in the baggage claim area and the departure lobby. Rates: unknown.

Duty-Free & Shopping – Duty-Free shopping and a decent selection of shops are available. The Grab & Go Convenience Shop may be a good spot for last-minute drink and snack needs. Location: Airside, Gate 9 & 10.

Food & Drinks – There are 12 restaurants/cafes to choose from, with Landside and Airside each having six. All restaurants operate from 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

Information Desk – Departure Level, Lobby. Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Location: Departure Lobby. Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Rates: 2/3/5,000 MMK per day for Hand/Small/Large Luggage.

Medical Services – Location: Departure Lobby and Immigration Area of Arrivals. Hours: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

Smoking – Smoking is permitted in designated areas throughout the airport, including at every gate.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

MDL airport is connected to the city centre by bus. The trip takes approximately one hour. At the time of this update, we do not know the rates.

Fixed-rate private and shared taxis are readily available in the ground transportation area.

Pro-Tip: A traveller tells us, “don’t go to the rank! The rank is run by the guys at the booth by the currency exchange. They seems like terrible touts but they are the official taxi booth.”
