Where to Sleep

  • Although no specific sleeping spot was mentioned, reviewers described their overnight stays as comfortable and hassle-free. Rows of armrest-free seating are available, and if you have a sleep mask, earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones, and a travel blanket, you will really have a good night’s rest!

Good to Know

Penang Airport Information

In this guide we may refer to locations as "landside" and "airside". Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door or purchasing a lounge pass. Visit the individual lounge page for more details (ie. facilities, hours, pass and membership information):

  • Plaza Premium Lounge - Location: Domestic Departures, Airside. Showers are available ($). Hours: 5:00AM - 11:00PM (Daily). Lounge Access: Pay at the Door (from MYR168 - 258) • Buy a lounge pass (£23.00 - 3 hours or £35.00 - 6 hours - 24 hour advance purchase is required) •  Priority Pass.
  • Plaza Premium Lounge - Location: International Departure Terminal, Airside, Mezzanine Level. 5:00AM - 11:00PM (Daily). Lounge Access: Pay at the Door (from MYR168 - 258) • Buy a lounge pass (£23.00 - 3 hours or £35.00 - 6 hours - 24 hour advance purchase is required).•  Priority Pass.

Airport Hotels

If sleeping in Penang Airport does not appeal to you, there are hotels near the airport:

  • DR Hotel Penang - (5 minutes from the airport) A budget hotel near the airport. No airport shuttle is available.
  • Hotel EST - (5 minutes from the airport) No airport shuttle.
  • Hotel Equatorial Penang - (15 minutes from the airport) Free scheduled airport shuttle runs from 5:00AM to 7:00PM (hotel to airport) and 8:30AM to 7:30PM (airport pick-up). At the airport the meeting point is at Gate 6 (outside Arrival Hall). Cross over to the 2nd lane for shuttle pick up once outside.

Taxis are readily available for hire in the ground transportation area of the airport. Some taxis don’t have functional meters, so you may need to negotiate a fare with the driver before starting your journey.
