Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, we are here to give you the low-down on what travellers have reported back to us during their time at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.

What to Expect

  • A modern international airport with separate terminals for domestic and international flights.
  • Shopping and dining options are good and reasonably priced, but only accept local currency or Chinese credit cards. All shops and restaurants close at night, so have food and beverage handy for late night snacking!
  • Inefficient and tedious airport procedures. Transit passengers must go through passport control upon arrival, collect their bags, and then go through regular check-in procedures, including going back through security checkpoints again. Check-in for all passengers is only allowed within 3 hours of the flight departure time.
  • WiFi is available.
  • Possible language barriers, as there are almost no airport employees who speak English. Periodicals and reading materials are also all in Chinese, including books and magazines sold at shops in the airport.

Where to Sleep

  • Overnight stays are only permitted in the public area of the terminal, and laying on the floor is not allowed, which means sleeping upright in a seat.
  • For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See Airport Hotels in the airport guide below.

Xiamen Airport Information

In this guide we may refer to locations as "landside" and "airside". Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Airport WiFi / Internet

WiFi is available at Xiamen Airport, but requires boarding pass information or a Chinese mobile phone number. Since check-in is not allowed until 3 hours prior to departure time, boarding pass information is not available until you check in for your flight, giving you 3 hours or less to use the WiFi, unless you have a Chinese mobile number. WiFi is also available in the first class lounges.
