What to Expect

The city’s primary international airport, Medellin Airport (code: MDE) has a modest, renovated terminal divided into National and International Concourses. Travellers report clean, modern facilities and good customer service. Amenities include several eateries, a 24 hour deli, a few shops, and free WiFi. Sleeping in Medellin Airport

We do not yet have any sleep-related airport reviews, but it seems that comfortable seating is plentiful, at least on the airside.  For uninterrupted sleep, hotels are nearby. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door or through a lounge membership program. ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Airside, 1st Floor, International Arrivals • Airside, 2nd Floor, National Departures • Landside, 2nd Floor, Check-in Area.

Baggage Trolleys – Need a hand with your luggage? Baggage trolleys are available. Rates: unknown.

Currency Exchange – Three currency exchange companies have offices at Medellin Airport in the Main Hall and International Arrivals area.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free is available as well as a variety of shops selling everything from clothes and souvenirs, to liquor and magazines.

Food & Drinks – There is a 24-hour deli as well other food concessions that operate with shorter hours. Coffee drinkers will be well served here with 11 concessions including a Juan Valdez Cafe.

Garden – The airport offers dedicated garden areas on the 1st and 2nd Floor of the airport.

Information Desk – Need help finding your way? There is an information point located on the 2nd Floor, main hall.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

Medical Services – If you require medical attention, there is a First Aid station available. Location: unknown.

Mobile Charging – A reader tells us mobile charging is not available.  You’ll need to hunt for a regular power outlet along the walls.  This reader found one in the bathroom. (April 2019)

Pharmacy – Pasteur Farmacia – Location: Main Hall.

SIM Cards – A reader tells us SIM Cards can be purchased on the 2nd level, upstairs after arrival in the public zone.

Travel Agencies – If you are arriving in Medellin and need local arrangements or help planning a really last minute trip abroad, there are a number of travel agencies with offices at the airport that can probably be of assistance.
