    Banjul Airport

    01.09.2004

I've heard that the old Banjul terminal was very unpleasant. However, the new terminal (in existence for several years now) is quite nice for an airport in a developing country. The airport is clean, there are small cafes/restaurants for purchasing food or drinks. Yes, there are porters who offer to carry your bags for you (legitimate porters can be identified by their brown uniforms and ID tags). The distance is not far to walk, but you need only pay US1 which isn't much and keeps the porters employed. My bags were searched in a cursory fashion on entry to the country and on departure. However, nothing that was any worse than anywhere else one travels these days. The Gambian people are friendly and hospitable. Eager to welcome visitors to their country. I had a great experience there both times I have traveled to this country.
