  • After severe damage from the December 2004 tsunami, the airport was renovated and expanded. The current terminal opened in 2009, with connections to several Southeast Asian destinations and the Middle East.

  • For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels within 20 minutes of the airport, though only some provide free airport transfers. See our Airport Hotel section below for more info.


In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter through a lounge membership program (ie. Priority Pass). Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: unknown.

Baby Care Facilities – A Mother and Child Room is available. Location: Domestic and International, Airside.

Children’s Play Area – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to one of the children’s play areas. Locations: Domestic Terminal, Airside and International Terminal, Airside.

Duty Free & Shopping – It is not known if Duty Free shopping is available. The airport offers a small variety of shops including 2 mini-markets that may come in handy for last minute convenience items.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. At the time of this update, we are unable to confirm the availability of any 24-hour dining options.

Information Desk – Location: Departures areas of the Domestic and International terminals.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

Prayer Rooms – There are 5 prayer rooms available (both landside and airside).

Rest Zones – Comfortable recliners are available in “rest rooms”, located in the Domestic And International Departures areas.

Showers – Not available.

Smoking – Smoking is permitted in designated areas including arrivals and in some Airside locations.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Airport Bus

DAMRI buses offer direct service between the airport and a designated stop in the city center (Grand Mosque area). Buses depart minutes after each flight lands, so don’t dawdle! To catch one, walk out and to the left of the airport exit, past the taxis. At the time of this update, the cost of a one-way ticket is Rp. 15,000 per person. Hours: unknown.

Car Rentals

Several car rental agencies offer services onsite at the airport.

Several area hotels provide airport transportation service for their guests. Contact your hotel of choice for availability and details:

Motorbike Taxis

Travel like a local, and hire a “becak” (motorbike taxi) from the ground transportation area of the airport. A good option for budget-minded adventurers who are traveling light!


Fixed-rate taxis are available for hire in the ground transportation area of the airport, during airport hours of operation.
