What to Expect
Mackay Airport (code: MKY) has a small terminal that handles a few domestic routes, primarily to Brisbane. Amenities include a few shops and eateries, free WiFi, and showers in the departures area bathrooms. Lounges are available to passengers flying on Qantas and Virgin Australia. Sleeping in Mackay Airport
Camping out overnight is not possible as the airport is closed from 9:30PM until 5:00AM. For uninterrupted sleep, a hotel is located in walking distance of the terminal. Additional hotels are nearby. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airport Hours
The airport is open 5:00AM – 9:30PM. Hours may change according to flight schedule. It is not possible to sleep in the airport overnight.

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships
Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door or through a lounge membership program. Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. At the time of this update, there are no 24-hour dining options. Food options include: Carlyle and River Coffee Co. • Red Rooster • Boost Juice • The Botanist Kitchen & Bar. Located at the Ibis Hotel on airport grounds, the Turbarlence Restaurant is another option, open 6:00AM – late.
Luggage Storage & Lockers
Store your luggage at the Ibis Hotel on the airport grounds (4 minute walk from the airport). Rates: Free of charge for guests and non-guests.
Mobile Charging
Power outlets and desktop charging stations are available in the Departures lounge.

Showers
Showers are located in both the men’s and ladies toilets at the departures end of the terminal (opposite the check-in areas).
WiFi/Internet
Free WiFi is available at Mackay Airport for 30 minutes within every 24 hours.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside, two at the Arrivals end of the Terminal • Airside, two in the departures lounge.
Baggage Trolleys – Need a hand with your luggage? Baggage trolleys are available free of charge in baggage claim, in the car parks and in front of the terminal.
Currency Exchange – Crown Currency offers currency exchange, phone cards, and more. Location: . Hours: 8:30AM – 5:00PM (Monday – Friday) and 7:00AM – 12:00PM (Saturday), closed Sunday.
Disabled Services – Mackay has a full Disability Access Facilitation Plan that outlines all services and facilities. It includes details on wheelchairs, accessible toilets, handicap parking and more.
Family Services – If you are travelling with an infant, there are baby care rooms for breastfeeding and diaper-changing. Locations: airside and landside near the bathrooms.
Information Desk – located in the departures area (landside).
Observation Area – Get a bird’s eye view of the apron and runway! Available to both visitors and travellers, the observation deck has tables, seating, food and bar service, and designated smoking area. Location: Airside.
Shopping – Two options are available: Newspapers, magazines, snacks, and more are sold at the Relay store. An assortment of small electronics and travel-related gear is available for purchase at Tech2Go.

Smoking Area – Located airside in the observation area and outside baggage claim.
Bus
There is currently a trial of a public bus service between Mackay Airport and the city centre. Route number 303 runs eleven times a day Monday to Friday and four times on Saturday. For fares, routes and schedules, visit the My Transit Link website.

Car Rentals
Rental cars are available, and the following companies have desks just in front of the security-screening checkpoint. Companies include: Avis • Budget • Enterprise • Europcar • Hertz • Redspot • Thrifty • Sixt.
Hotel Shuttles

Taxi
Taxis are available at the taxi rank just outside the terminal. Taxis are metered and all fares are subject to an additional $2 airport fee.
