To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Shenzhen Airport.
What to Expect
Despite its name, Terminal 3 is the only terminal at Shenzhen Airport. The large, modern building is recently built and handles all domestic and international routes. Choose from dozens of restaurants and eateries serving local and Western fare, more than half of which are open 24 hours. Other amenities include duty-free and retail shops, a designated rest zone, and free WiFi. Economy class passengers can pay to enter several airport lounges. See Airport Lounges in the airport guide below for location and access information.
Where to Sleep
Travellers certainly spend the night here but it isn’t the most comfortable airport rest. A designated overnight rest area has rows of hard seats equipped with armrests – not exactly sleep-friendly. Other options are bean-shaped seating made of hard plastic. Try the McDonald’s or a cafe for lie-flat benches or opt for the floor with a sleeping bag or travel mat. For uninterrupted sleep, a hotel is located inside the terminal. Other nearby hotels offer free shuttle service. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships
Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program (ie. Priority Pass). Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!
If you are a First or Business Class traveller you may have access to the lounges listed below. For more information, check the airline’s website.
