It was far from comfortable. There were flies everywhere – both inside and outside the fastfood places. They were even all over my face all the time and this was the main reason to find sleeping here difficult. – tony_vm

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Frankfurt-Hahn International Airport.

What to Expect

The small, no frills Frankfurt Hahn Airport (code: HHN) primarily serves low-cost European carriers. Despite its name, the airport is located more than 100 kilometres from the City of Frankfurt, at an equal distance between the cities of Frankfurt and Luxembourg. The airport serves primarily low-cost carriers flying to European destinations, so don’t expect much from an overnight here. There are limited shops and dining options, with most being landside. There is also 24-hour McDonald’s open on the landside that reportedly has better WiFi than the airport. The airport provides free WiFi, but charging areas/outlets are reported to be scarce.

Sleeping in Hahn Airport

Airport staff are generally described as friendly and accommodating to overnight sleepers, and airport security helps make overnight sleepers feel safe. Airside closes overnight, so travellers will be relocated Landside until security opens in the morning. There are armrest-free benches scattered throughout the airport in both departure and arrivals areas. Ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones are recommended due to loud overnight cleaning services.  Explore our guide to sleeping in Frankfurt Hahn Airport or read some traveller reviews for more tips. For uninterrupted sleep, there are a couple of hotels opposite the terminal and some other nearby hotels. See Airport Hotels in the guide below for more info.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s web site for current information.  For more airport information continue scrolling down to explore more in our Frankfurt Hahn Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
