Dubrovnik Airport Review

Pros: -

(Guest Review by Pavlo) At the evening once a policeman have checked my boarding pass and then let me stay and sleep. Benches aren't too comfortable. The worst thing is that Wi-Fi is chargeable. So I moved outside to the car rental offices near parking and a local guy was so kind to give me a password from his network.

kicked out of the airport

Reason for Stay: Early flight departure
Where: Landside
Pros: none
Cons: everything!

I went to the airport after i read on this website that i could sleep there. However a few croatian people there advised me to ask the security guys which i did. They just told me i couldn't stay overnight. It was 8.30pm. Note that there isn't any accommodation closeby. I ended up wandering around the airport after looking for the least uncomfortable place to stay!! I ended up finding a nice guy who offered me to stay at his. I could have slept outside without his help!

Long night

Reason for Stay: Early flight departure
Where: Landside
Pros: quiet, cheap, no noise
Cons: dont have more than 12 hours between flights

My friend and I were returning from our Balcans trip through Dubrovnik. We had our flight at 6AM so no sence in paying 30 for a hostel/hotel in Dubrovnik. Problem was that last shuttle to the airport was at 7.30PM. So looong night. Since it was midsummer there was more than 10 of us. It would have been more, but at 12.00 it closes and all people coming between 12 and 4AM were forced to stay outside!!! Its clean, security doesnt make problems, just maybe at 4AM when they wake you up (and not nicely). Be careful about food and water. Between 11AM and 5PM all shops are closed!

The tapping of the giant moths at the window was the only noise I had to endure during an overnighter in Dubrovnik International. How did I end up there? Easy I arrived for an 8pm flight that was actually an 8am flight (pretty dumb eh?). If I ever was forced to sleep in an airport again it would have to be Dubrovnik. It was just me and an armed security guard, the doors were locked, the tannoy was switched off, the cleaners had gone home and the seats were comfortable, soft and strecthoutable on (nice word stretchoutable). About midnight as the airport closed for the night, the last guy out suggested an even better location than the one I had picked for myself... "over by the toilet," he said, "I'll leave the light on for you." How cool was that. The place was as quiet as a dentist's waiting room full of accountants. If you have to stay there, have no fear, plus the sight of the sunrise that you'll have all to yourself is well worth it. Sleep well!

(Contributed by Trinh) "I arrived at the Dubrovnik airport 14 hours before my flight out the next morning at 6am. When my taxi pulled up, I thought the airport was closed because there was not a single car in the parking lot!!! Other than the security guards, there was not a single person inside, all the ticket counters were closed, and the place seemed virtually deserted. The taxi driver assured me it was open, so I walked in and sat down in a corner bench so as to not draw attention to myself. But obviously being the only person there with any kind of luggage (my backpack), I was constantly being surveyed by the security guards and restaurant staff. Finally they asked me what I was doing there, and I told then I was waiting for my flight the next morning and asked if I could sleep there overnight. He looked a bit surprised but said I could. Not sure if they normally allow people to sleep there overnight, or because it was the off-peak tourist season, but I ended up being the only person sleeping there that night. There were both metal and cushioned benches, but the cushioned ones were unfortunately right up front near the entrance doors, where the cold air was seeping in. SO that's where I spent the next 14 hours. The airport has more good than bad points - the restrooms were impeccably clean, there were no flight announcements so it was very quiet (both good and bad), and the security guards were extremely courteous and nice. They checked up on me every few hours throughout the night to make sure I was safe, and even stopped by in the morning to ask how I slept and if everything was okay. And, if you're a T-Mobile cell phone user, you are in luck because there's continued >>
