Racial profiling

(Guest Review) Group of us went to Weekend break to Milan. At the airport We were told we could not take a small handbag which contained our passports and money. I believe all airports have their own security and everyone needs to comply. However because we were Asian and there was a group of us we were told our handbags needed to be placed in our trolley suitcases. Whilst other passengers were allowed to take rucksack's as well as their other hand luggage. clearly she saw us as a potential threat (BTW we are british born Sikhs). It was awful as I personally have never been subjected to this. Felt very intimidated and when we questioned this policy since all the other passengers were allowed the security officer gave us a torrent of abuse. We knew we couldn't argue as they have the power and we could be 'kicked out' of our flight and they know this. I was glad I was back in my home country UK. Wont be going to Milan again....and we will be keen to tell our family of our awful experience so they know what to expect. Such a shame as we had a lovely time. Won't be going again

Milan Malpensa Airport

(Guest Review) After a late-night Schengen arrival, I followed the 'Transit' directions to sleep airside, in the secure area. I was in Terminal 1. The area of the gates A50-A54 has reasonably comfortable seats (but with armchairs). A lot of power outlets. It started getting noisy around 4am when early-flight passengers started to arrive.

(Guest Review by Diego) I got a place in arrivals area by the right side (next to entrance door 4). No bars around. No people around as area is a little bit hidden. The chairs there are soft. I could use 8 sits moving and placing them as a bed. I slept around 8-9 hours. As it is arrivals area people dont come during the night. There were about 50 places for 5-6 people who spent there the night, without any 'visit'. The sits in other areas of the airlort are not always soft.

(Guest Review by Jessica) This is my 3rd time experience sleeping in airport. Actually my flight is not too early, it's on 11a.m, but because I stay in city quite far from Malpensa Airport, I decided to stay in the airport 1 day earlier instead. Although this is my 3rd time experience sleeping in airport, this is my first time sleepin in airport with 2 big luggages, 1 cabin luggage, and I'm woman travelling solo (I decided not to left luggages because they charge 10e each bag (5e per day, they count 2 days for my bag since I'll take it tomorrow morning). Most of shops and restaurant close probably at 21 or 22. So if you are planning to overnight in airport, prepare for some meal, otherwise you can buy in vending machine. Toilet quite clean. Electrical socket quite much to find. I sit in front of Customs Office where there us 1 metal bench with armrest (so you can't lay your body), and back in this bench there are 3 pairs of electrical socket which is more convenient to juice your gadget you don't need to sit on the floor.

Arrival hall

(Guest Review by Dk) I usually stay at airports if I have an early flight. I travel overseas and don't want to waste money on hotels for just 4-8hr stay. I instead would like to stay at the airport. I have stayed in Malpensa overnight before my departure, but this was the first time at the arrival Hall. After baggage claim, come out and there is a big hall before the final exit. It's huge with almost 6 exit gates and lot of chairs and benches. Near the big food court near exit no. 3 there is wall outlets and chairs (2 without armrests). This is the best place. Internet is free for unlimited time, but it didn't connect to the internet during the night from 12.00 midnight to 6.00am.

AVOID MILAN MALPENSA

(Guest Review by Sarah) It all began when I booked a flight with Air Europa through Alitalia (another nightmare of a company). I will never make such a horrible mistake again. We were flying out of Milan Malpensa airport, to Madrid. According to the Air Europa guidelines, check in closes 45 minutes before the flight. We arrived a little over an hour before the flight, because our bus was late. When we walked over to the check in desk, the employees immediately started saying 'YOU ARE LATE THE FLIGHT IS CLOSED' I attempted to tell them that it is still an hour before the flight departs, so we are not late. But they kept yelling, laughing, and acting like children. We were truly appalled at their behavior. I have never had someone talk to me the way these women talked to me, when I was simply trying to check in to my flight. After carrying on for 15 minutes, the women then said, well it's 45 minutes before the flight, we are now closed, and began to walk away. I pleaded with them, is there anything they can do for us, but they just said 'TOO BAD YOU MISSED THE FLIGHT' 'I DON'T KNOW HOW FLIGHTS ARE IN AMERICA MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO AMERICA' 'GO BOOK A FLIGHT WITH SOME AMERICAN AIRLINE THEN I DON'T CARE, DO YOU THINK I CARE IF YOU USE OUR AIRLINE?'. There was also another man and his family that arrived AFTER us and was in the same situation, the women at the Air Europa desk (Simona G and Katerina) would not help. So we all went to the Air Europa customer service to try and see if we could get on a later flight. A woman named Daniela was talking to the other man and his family for nearly 20 minutes, and then he walked away, having changed his flight with a penalty. Acc continued >>

MXP - bring your own food if staying overnight

by web-administrator (March, 2016)

(Guest Review by Iloradana3000) Malpensa airport is generally a nice and clean airport. Free Wifi, clean toiletts, a lot of room to sleep at night - however, all stores close farely early and won't open until 6 am. If you happen to get stranded at Mxp at night and are really hungry you are out of luck - but in the lower floor near the exit towards the sheriton are two small vending machines! One sells snacks and the other coffee. Learn from my mistake and come prepared!

Sleeping spot

(Guest Review by Min Mouse) The Gran Cafe on level P1 next to the vending machine has a window with a set back on the side facing their 'outside' eating area that makes a nice sleeping area from their closing time until about 5 a.m. when they turn their lights back on. Quiet and safe. Coffe in vending when you arise.

Just as good as a hostel!

by web-administrator (October, 2015)

(Guest Review) On the third floor of the airport (food court) there's an excellent place to sleep on the ground in a little alley to the side the escalator. The place is silent after 23:00 and the escalators turn off. There's a bit of privacy at this spot and with earplugs and blinders I slept a beautiful 6-7hours. I slept Until about 7:00 when the airport starts to get busy again. The security guards also don't give you any trouble seemingly regardless of where you sleep. On the very bottom floor there's also a couple good spots. There's some column benches with some a little sheltered under escalators which offer a little privacy. Enjoy!

All I needed

(Guest Review) My first time sleeping at an airport and it was better than some cheap hostel. I slept on some long benches on the first floor just before the security check. The area seemed like a forgotten waiting area, with vey little traffic passing through, mainly airport personnel. The benches were metal but with a jacket and sweatshirt under me were perfectly adequate. The wifi connection was good and the toile just downstairs. Felt safe even through I was alone and female.

Some tips for sleeping in Malpensa

by web-administrator (August, 2015)

Pros: -
Cons: -

(Guest Review by Mimmo) Malpensa is not the best airport for sleeping, but I want to share with you some tips to make better your experience. Terminal 2 is the EasyJet terminal, a lot of early flights so many people sleeping there. Terminal 1 is the biggest one. I suggest you to sleep in the 'Arrivals' floor (I guess it's 0 floor) beacause there are more benches and more comfortable. All the benches in Malpensa are with armchairs, so get prepared for it. If you want to buy somenthing during the night, use the vending machines located in the right-part of 'departure floor' (3 floor) in the employees zone (you have to clim the stairs from the 3 floor), they are so much cheaper!

Milan Malpensa Airport Review

by web-administrator (January, 2015)

Pros: -

(Guest review) A friend and I had an evening arrival flight and early flight at another Milan airport, but we decided to stay here since we heard that the other airport didn't have wifi. We were able to get food( I don't believe they have 24hr places), charge our phones, and use the wifi which was a bit spotty. The bathrooms were clean and there was ample seating to take a quick nap on. The staff was surprisingly happy to help us in the late hours to find the right bus to take. Sleeping in airports isn't my favorite thing in the world, but if I had to do it again, this airport would be OK.

A night in Malpensa T2

by web-administrator (March, 2015)

Pros: -
Cons: -

(Guest Review from Samuele) I slept with my girlfriend in Malpensa at T2 because our flight to Budapest was early in the morning on march the 31st. At the first floor we found some metal benches without arm: we could move them in order to sleep in a larger 'bed'! We couldn't sleep until 00:30 because of the noise of vacuum cleaners at ground floor, but the night wasn't so bad; only one other man slept there, but we could hear a family with children at ground floor so we think the spent the night awake or seated (only benches with arms at ground floor). We woke up at about 05:30 because of a sweet smell of croissant and cappuccino from the bar just below us..that's very good awakening!! :-) I will definitely recommend this place to sleep. N.B. #1 At ground floor there's ONE recliner, it looks very very comfortable: it could be a good solution if you are alone but you have to occupy it in advance! N.B. #2 At the end of March 2015 huge works in progress in MPX T2

Uncomfortable but okay

by Tbwktm (November, 2014)

Reason for Stay: Early flight departure
Where: Landside
Pros: not crowded at all; safe; free 24-hour bus connecting terminals 1 and 2
Cons: not sleeper-friendly; cold; construction during the night

This was my first experience of sleeping in an airport, and I did spend significant time during the day casing the joint, so to say. The Malpensa airport has two terminals, both of them divided into Departures and Arrivals areas respectively. Terminal 1 is the bigger one (it's pretty huge), and it's where I ended up spending the night, but Terminal 2 (and especially the Arrivals area) would probably have been a better pick. While it is true that the benches are made of wire there, I still had an hour of sleep there after arrival in the middle of the day, in normal sleeping positions, unbothered. The area was mostly quiet with some radio music playing somewhere, and it was well-heated, being rather small. Terminal 1, however, is huge, cold, busier even during the night, and has no seats without armrests. I've seen a few stone benches in the Arrivals area without dividers, but they seemed even colder than the already cold terminal. I had originally planned on spending the night in Terminal 2, but I ended up in Terminal 1 by accident (the driver of the night shuttle decided not to stop at Terminal 2 after asking around in Italian whether anyone wants to go there and got no reactions), and I figured I'd just stay since my flight departs from that terminal anyway. If I could do it again, I would take the free bus to Terminal 2 and spend the night on one of the long wire benches. Anyway, I found lightly cushioned seats near Check-In Area 13 of Terminal 1. A man was already sleeping in the middle of two seat rows pushed to one another forming a very uncomfortable bed (see pictures), and I decided to learn from the master, with my backpack as my pillow. I slept six hours continued >>

(GUEST) In 2014 (and maybe for longer) the airport is expanding and so there is a lot of noise in the landside. When you land and arrive in the hand baggage check-out, no police officer assist you, they only look around searching for something that you will never know... Actually they don't know what are they looking for, too.
