Oryx lounge - a pleasant surprise

by web-administrator (April, 2017)

(Guest Review) I had a 9hr stopover in Doha. Oaid 50 (US) to enter the Oryx Lounge after reading mixed reviews. There were more staff than patrons the whole time. Food was limited in choice, but quite nice and plentiful. Excellent array of help yourself drinks (softdrinks, juices etc). Asked for an alcoholic beverage and it came within minutes. Staff are excellent. The whole lounge is very clean. One shower only, but clean and lovely water pressure. Quiet room has 6 or so lounge chairs which I managed to fall asleep in just fine. Overall... very well worth the money for a long stopover.

try level 0 near gates C20-C29!

(Guest Review by Peter) Got stuck overnight here twice in 3 days, the second planned, the first due to a flight cancellation. The good thing that due to its central location as a transit hub it's really alive 24/7: shops, eateries, flight information and all other services are all available overnight and you won't look like an out-of-place zombie walking around as you are surrounded by people who probably still operate on a uniform sampling of the timezones of the world. The bad thing is the same thing: it's hard to get some rest when the place is busy around you. And, as others pointed out, the temperature: it's really is freezing inside. The best place I found to sleep is the 'Level 0' in concourse C, near gates C20-C29. It's a floor below everything else and that is a blessing: very small crowd overnight, no thru-traffic, the A/C is actually bearable, and, most importantly, there's lots of room in the corners or between the chairs and soft (but clean) carpet covers the floor. Dozens slept there and nobody bothered us. I got a good uninterrupted 5 hours of sleep there and I am usually a very light sleeper. Don't bother with the 'silent rooms': there are indeed some reclining chairs, but you are still sitting in a chair (I simply cannot sleep in that position), there's a lot of movement around and they are separated from the main hustle-and-bustle with a 2m wall and nothing else, so the noise, the lights and the freezing cold is the same. The prayer rooms are much better but show some respect and don't use them for sleeping.

(Guest Review by Fiou) There is a room to pray, smoke, and to rest! Special rooms with inclined seats which required an absolute calm from everyone, They call it 'Quiet room' you can easily sleep there!

Doha Airport Review

by web-administrator (November, 2016)

Pros: -
Cons: -

(Guest Review) Poor design to accommodate people who need to sleep - all chairs have armrests, preventing one from lying down. The public rest areas have poor choice of seating - many people use several chairs to build a bed. The family rest rooms are firstly hard to find and also bright, freezing cold, fitted with reclined chairs (unable to adjust or lay flat) and noisy (babies, snorers, alarms going off). Floor was more comfortable than chairs but too bright and cold to fall asleep - the lighting and air conditioning is something that could be easily fixed but entire airport is very unaccommodating to those that need sleep.

Worst airport for long layovers

by web-administrator (October, 2016)

Pros: -
Cons: -

(Guest Review by Osama balawi) Qatar airways the major carrier at this airport have long layovers, between 8-24 hours , the airport is not equipped for appropriate accommodation for sleeping , seats all over the airport have arm rests that have no actuall purpose but to stop you from laying down and sleep for few hours before your flight , the only airport hotel is grossly overpriced and mostly full , if you ask for transit visa to get a hotel outside the airport there is a lot of discrimination against certain nationallity , jordan in my case , very cold , high prices in everything , this is my first experience and defenitly my last

Why is so freezing cold in the airport?

by web-administrator (October, 2016)

Pros: -

(Guest Review) We spend 6 hours in the airport. Facilities are mentioned were good but it was ridiculous cold in the airport. In the family rest lounge the lucky ones were using the planes blankets and in my case almost shivering. I wonder why is so cold in this airport? What a waste of energy! I hope somebody take this into account.

Air Hotel

(Guest Review by Qatarno) Everything were great, but we have to be 8h at the Airport. Because of small kid, we take a room in the Airport hotel and it was very expensive, 310 for only 4h (two of us and child). I dont know WHY we payed, cos we were flyling with Qatar and our connection time were 8h... and we think, in that case, Hotel probably must be for a free.

Doha Airport Review

(Guest Review) This airport feels dark and creepy at night, hard to navigate, signs are not doing a good job but there is a lot of workers who are great in helping passengers to navigate. At the immigration if you had to deal with Qatari employees there is a good chance you will be treated very bad according to your nationality and your look. In my trip there, I asked one qatari girl at the security to help me on something she made faces for me, didn't respond and called an Indian employee to help me without telling me a word. On my way out to the gate passing the immigration, the officer was qatari girl again and she was very disrespectful, I was on transit visa and I missed my flight because of airline mistake, she immediately called another qatari officer to take me to pay fees without telling me anything, I asked what is the problem, she replied you stayed longer than 24 hours, no one has told me that I've a 24 hours permit neither I recieved a written paper that says this. The officer who took our passports was the rudest person I ever met in my life, I was carrying my daughter and she was very fussy and he was just giving me hard time and being disrespectful. When I explained what happened saying this is not my fault he said it is not my fault either and he asked me to go there without telling any directions on where to go I told him my flight is already boarding can you tell me where is exactly there, he said there again pointing with his finger to an empty space, I went to ask another officer who was very kind and walked me to the office, I paid the fees and asked for help because my flight is boarding and I don't want to deal with that rude officer again 'he was continued >>

Oryx Lounge

(Guest review) Used the oryx lounge for 6 hours. Im very dissapointed that this lounge does not have sleeping facilities. It has a buffet which is pretty basic for the amount paid. Has TV, internet room quite warm cos aircon is not on. Decent shower room n toilet. Nothing much to do other than to eat. Airport is very big and has many seats to rest. Shops are not that many.

(Guest Review) We were plagued by people talking loudly in the sleep/rest room - so it would help if there were attendants enforcing the 'quiet please' rule

Doha Airport Review

(Guest Review) For a new airport opened in 2015, the Arrival Immigration Service is NON-EXISTANT!! The array of available cubicles are always less than 50 staffed, as only Qataris are employed there and they are more occupied with their mobile phones and taking breaks than dealing with arriving passengers! And this has been ongoing and getting increasingly worse since the 'new' airport opened. Despite massive complaints to the relevant stakeholders, this situation is just getting worse with queues sometimes waiting up to 2 hours after arriving! Free wifi is great but food is as you would find in the city - only at twice the price! Entire airport is like a tourist trap, designed with exclusive shops catering for the more affluent.
