(Guest Review by Lighthouse) Dhaka airport Skylounge, 25, excellent, quiet, comfortable, includes buffet supper and breakfast, good internet, newspaper. Staff most kind and helpful. Onward ticket check-in close by. Altogether ten out of ten. I am in the lounge now. 6.30am after a good nights snooze. I have the lounge all to myself.

Dhaka airport a nightmare

(Guest Review by Tanmoy Barman) Dhaka Airport is one of the worst airport I have been to. I had to send more than 10 hours in transit at the airport and it was a nightmare. The airport is far below international standards. The behavior of the airport staff is very bad. The worst part for a transit passenger is that the airport shops will take only taka and there is no place to drink water. The toilets are very dirty. There is no place to charge your laptop or mobile phone in the airport. There was always delay in boarding and the authorities if asked had no clue about the whereabouts. The terminal cooling system is also not up to the mark. There is no WiFi facility in the airport. There is only one restaurant in the airport name Spices where the waiters have a very arrogant attitude.

(Guest Review) the Thai airways lounge is a disgrace - instant coffee and a cheap kettle to make your own nescafe or something equally as horrid ... I mean for the love of God Thai airways at least purchase a netspresso machine or something? Not a lot to ask a decent coffee

(Guest Review) This Airport has improved a lot over the past few months. There are less mosquitos and the transit is now much more efficient. The toilets are tolerable and the lines are also not that long. The restaurants are medium to high quality and the hygiene is good. However there is room for improvement because exiting the airport is a struggle and the flights are delayed often.

(Guest review) Have no international facilities at all. No clinliness, All over dirty. Poor securty, you can go out as many time you wish, even your security check is done. Poor and untidey taxi allover. Facilities are very pathatic. Will take 15 more years to maintain and provide international airport standards.

Come on Star Alliance!

by web-administrator (January, 2016)

(Guest Review) Thai airways lounge is like stepping back in time and not in a good way despite the very super friendly service of the team and the supervisor the lounge itself is horrid - I dont know why people even both to sit there - could be the free wifi or to watch CNN? The fact there is a no real coffee on hand is a huge pet peev for me. Instant coffee and a tacky plastic kettle is really not up to the standard that should have some minimum standards come on Star Alliance! Sadly the only decent coffee shop in the departure area is now closed down - looks like it is in process of being demolished or what is condemned as much of the rest of the airport looks like it should be.... I love the people in Bangladesh but seriously improve the quality of drinks and the decor in the TG lounge - thanks

Almost Non-Existent service

(Guest Review) I flew in from KUL, Malaysia. The first hurdle I faced was they landed far away from the airport. So, we needed bus to travel to the airport but we had to wait around 20 mins for the bus which was late 'due to some unavoidable circumstances'. There is need to say that the Bangladesh Immigration is one of the slowest. The next hurdle faced was the wait for the luggage which took around 1 hour 30 mins. The first the 30 mins the belt was not even on. Once I got my luggage I had to face the so called helpers who carry your stuff and ask Tk 200.00 btw they push the trolleys (I didn't use their service) and annoying drivers who keep on asking you if you need any transportation (neither theirs). Once you manage to go out you will see a sea of people who block almost every gate. Luckily the guards clear the path. Anyone wondering I flew in using Malaysia Airlines.

(Guest Review) 1. Aggressive, extremely rude airport staff (they think they are the owner the airport!) 2. THE WORST toilet facilities! Broken door knob, broken toilet seat, no water to use but whole bathroom floor is flooded with disgusting water, no toilet paper, extremely smelly (you'd be lucky if you could resist vomit!) 3. Frauds and beggars (they will stick with you like super glue!) within the terminal area. 4. Poor selection/ qulity of food.

(Guest review) 1. When I got to immigration on arrival, there was 10 desks and 1 guy working, who was sound asleep. 2. Look back after you pass the desk - you will see they are all playing solitaire. There is often 3 people crowded around 1 computer too, as obviously they have no idea how to work it. 3. Don't try the toilets, terrible, plus you will have to climb over a mountain of random luggage that has been sent (without passenger) from the middle east, all wrapped in rope. 4. There are so many mosquitos, my friend actually contracted malaria from all the bites she got there. 5. Absolutely no climate control. Fan yourself with your immigration card while you wait in the giant line (see points 1 and 2) You would never dream of sleeping here - it just wouldn't even cross your mind.

(Guest Review) If we had ignored advice to get to the airport early because of the hartal and possible disruptions to taxis, all would have been fine. However, we listened and had to spend 8 hours on the landside of the airport. Dhaka Airport was clean but poorly policed, particularly in comparison to the city. Toilets were clean, but mosquitoes were everywhere. Snack food was expensive and limited. Well dressed men with seemingly genuine IDs offered to assist us. Same thing happened when we came into the country: seems officials try to supplement their income by 'helping' European visitors. Immigration was fast and courteous. Security was cursory. Airside was comfortable and offered food! Dhaka Airport is not Changi but it works. Accept you are in Bangladesh and enjoy the experience, with caution.

Not as bad as it could be

by Travelgrrl65 (June, 2011)

Reason for Stay: Weather/airline delay
Where: Landside and Airside
Pros: people watching, decent bar, friendly staff
Cons: you'll have to bride someone at some point

I lived in Dhaka for four years and traveled in and out of the country quite a bit. Because of frequent flight delays, I have spent quite a bit of time camping out, both by myself and with large groups of people. There is a Sheridan run bar upstairs. It's smokey a lot of the time, and overpriced, but it beats hanging out downstairs with the teeming hordes of Bangladeshi 'guest workers' in matching baseball hats, who are on their way to Dubai or some other Middle Eastern country. As a female, I found being surrounded by the men, many of whom had clearly never seen a Caucasian woman up close, to be, not threatening, but very uncomfortable. The Sheridan bar, on the other hand, is quiet, and has a really good bathroom, complete with a shower. (I've never taken a shower there though, so I have no idea how it is). The rest of upstairs is deserted. It has kind of a groovy 70s vibe, and looks like it was built when the country was first founded and they had big plans for modernization. I have not tried sleeping up there, but it is huge and empty and I am sure that for a small bribe, you would be left alone. If you are leaving Dhaka, do not admit to carrying any local money, because they will tell you it is illegal to take it out of the country and confiscate it. It is a much better option to carry your money though and use it to purchase random stuff at duty-free. (I bought 36 KitKat bars with my spare Taka when I left the country.) The seating is incredibly uncomfortable, and the gates do not open until shortly before the scheduled flight time. If you are a female, be prepared for multiple full body pat downs (by a female guard, and behind a screen, but VERY thoro continued >>

Hey, it's Bangladesh

Reason for Stay: Checking in and had to wait
Where: Landside and Airside

Dhaka airport has been improving over the last 3 years I have known it. I agree with a previous reviwer that the upstairs transit area is the best area and completely different from the usual Asian chaos below. Firstly, if you head upstairs and towards the northern (right-hand facing the runway) there is the Sheraton (outpost) that will give you good food and booze (at a price, approx 7 a can of beer). You can spend as long as you want here. Head just a little bit south (left along the runway) and it is completely deserted. Surely enough to spread out and catch a few z's. Or for a quiet chunder.
