Sleeping in Airports

Dubai Al Maktoum Airport Guide

Whether you have a layover, overnight sleepover or you are just quickly passing through, our Dubai Al Maktoum Airport Guide is a great place to start planning your visit.  Here, you’ll find information on services and facilities available inside the airport – including details about airport lounges, WiFi, mobile charging points, lockers, 24-hour food options, nearby hotels, and everything in between.

Also be careful about laying on the floor at this airport. I did so and found not only dozens of tiny insects but an actual scorpion checking out my laptop! – 5ftman

DWC Airport Overview

dubai al maktoum airport guideTo help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport (also known as Dubai World Central Airport).

What to Expect

Dubai Al Maktoum Airport (code: DWC) consists of a single terminal that serves low-cost carriers and seasonal routes. The airport was intended to be the largest airport in the world and part of a larger free economic zone, but its ongoing construction, three planned terminals, has been delayed by 10 years. Reviews describe inefficient security processes.

Current facilities are modern, but limited. There are only three cafes, a McDonald’s, and a duty-free shop, and none are open 24 hours. WiFi is free, but old reviews describe it as a scam. For added comfort while you wait, economy class passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
